Solar energy systems for homes work by converting sunlight into electricity using solar panels, usually installed on the roof. The panels contain photovoltaic (PV) cells that capture sunlight and transform it into direct current (DC) electricity. An inverter then converts the DC power into alternating current (AC), which is the type of electricity used to power household appliances.
When your solar panels produce more electricity than your home needs, the excess energy can be sent back to the electric grid (through a process called net metering) or stored in a battery for later use. This helps reduce or even eliminate your electric bills, while also lowering your carbon footprint and increasing your home’s energy independence.
